Event Description
Join Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves biologists Heidi Braunreiter and Maddy Heredia to learn about the trees and natural plant communities at the Kentucky River Palisades (Tom Dorman) State Nature Preserve. This State Nature Preserve is one of the largest protected natural areas in the Kentucky River Palisades region. Several rare plants are located on the limestone cliffs including starry cleft phlox (Phlox bifida var. stellaria) and Eggleston's violet (Viola egglestonii). We will follow along the 2-mile loop hiking trail through the forest and to the river. Moderately difficult hiking with steep hills and steps. We will meet at the state nature preserve parking lot at 1pm. To learn more about the preserve, please visit our website: https://eec.ky.gov/Nature-Preserves/Locations/Pages/Tom-Dorman.aspx
Directions: From Nicholasville, follow Rt. 27 south for approximately nine miles. Immediately after crossing the Kentucky River into Garrard County, turn right into the Parking lot marked with a brown Nature Preserve sign.
