Dr. Matthew John
Professional Biography
I come to UFI with one foot planted in academia and the other in community development. I have a PhD in human–environment geography from the University of Kentucky, where I studied how experiences of beauty in the natural world can translate to care for the environment. I have also worked as a community builder and mentor on college campuses in Colorado. I combine these experiences — and a lifelong love of trees — to manage UFI’s core team and to oversee and grow our various urban canopy-promoting projects here on UK’s campus and across the commonwealth.
