tree week 2021 cemetery conifer walk

Lexington Cemetery has a diverse collection of both native and ornamental conifers from afar.  Walk through the cemetery with botanist Rob Paratley to see natives like eastern hemlock, eastern redcedar, eastern white pine, and bald-cypress.  We will also find exotic conifers, some quite uncommon in cultivation in our area, like European larch, dawn redwood, Austrian pine, Scots pine, Atlas cedar, Japanese cryptomeria, yew, false-cypress, pond-cypress, Douglas-fir, false-larch, and several species each of both true fir and spruce. Tips on recognizing conifers, their natural history, geography, and uses will also be presented.
