Woodlands in the Bluegrass - A Walk at Hisle Park
Located just outside the city of Lexington, Hisle Park was created on former farmland turned over to natural regrowth. Most of this 280 acre park is managed as open grassland, but a few wooded areas, tree groves and large free standing trees give character to this public space. Our walk will focus on the patches of woods in the park, the management challenges they present and the ways they add visual variety and ecological diversity to this fascinating landscape. During the past winter and spring, the Lexington Chapter of Wild Ones led a significant effort at removing invasives in some of the wooded areas.
