urban forest initiative tree week 2021 african cemetery

Join us for a celebration of the vibrant tree collection in African Cemetery No. 2, the earliest recorded cemetery in Lexington to be organized, owned, and managed by African Americans. This Tree Week event will include a short talk by the director of the cemetery, Dr. Mark Coyne, about the historical and cultural significance of the cemetery, a tree walk through the cemetery's trees, guided by Rob Paratley. The tree walk will focus on the trees that were planted by the community in 2017 and an opportunity to connect with one another about Lexington's black history and the importance of trees in our urban landscape.

Feel free to click on the 'tours' tab on our website and download a printable version of the Tree Walking Tour brochure.
