urban forest initiative tree week 2020 tree pruning

Description

Urban trees, unlike those in the forest, require pruning to assure their health and the safety of those of us who live among them. Much expensive care of mature trees can be avoided through judicious pruning when a tree is young. Stacy Borden will demonstrate how to prune young trees properly and will explain the reason for specific pruning cuts. Stacy, who is now the grounds manager at UK, has worked as an arborist in Lexington for many years.

Join Wild Ones as they gather for a tree pruning in the picnic shelter of Wellington Park. Groups of 10 masked persons will gather around a tree to observe the cuts Stacy makes and hear his explanations. After half an hour a second group will gather around another tree for the same instruction. Then a third group may assemble around yet another tree.We encourage participants to bring some food, drink and a chair to socialize (with appropriate distance) while they wait their turn or linger for a chat.If you have plants to exchange please bring them to this event. They must be native and labeled.
