urban forest initiative tree week 2020 tree scavenger hunt

Do you like solving puzzles and learning about trees? Our education staff has developed a Scavenger Hunt for you! To participate, follow a series of clues that can be found along the paved and mulch paths of The Arboretum. The first clue will be posted on October 10th on our Facebook page, Instagram and Website. As you solve each riddle, you will learn about Arboretum resources, Kentucky Native Trees, and basic tree ID. This event is geared toward adults and kids ages 7 and up. Not an expert botanist? No worries, this event will be fun for all, regardless of your botany knowledge! You are welcome to use your phone to do research and we will provide QR codes that provide extra hints. This Scavenger Hunt is part of the third annual Tree Week. You can participate and complete the hunt at The Arboretum from October 10-17 during our regular hours of operation (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, except days of UK Football home games). Please practice social distancing and wear a mask while you are on the grounds. The outdoor restrooms are open, but the water fountains remain closed.

To participate in our plant giveaway contest, complete the Scavenger Hunt from October 10 to 17, take a selfie with the last clue, and send it to us by October 19, 2020.  To send us your selfie with the congratulations sign: Tag us on Instagram @UKArboretum or message us on Facebook (The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky) or email us at Arboretum@uky.edu

The plant giveaway will consist of native plants, great for pollinators, grown in-house by our Native Plants Collection Manager, Emily Ellingson.  Call (859) 257-9339 if you have questions about the Scavenger Hunt.
