Neighborhood Engagement in Planting and Nurturing Urban Trees
Description
Rupert Bentley Walls will give this public seminar on his experience working in London and across the United Kingdom. He is an expert in tree planting, species selection, establishment and community engagement, local authority management structures, service provision, and understands how tree officers function. A description of Rupert's talk is as follows:
"Tree and site selection are frequently the primary emphases in community tree planting initiatives, but an often overlooked aspect of these initiatives is the process of engaging residents in recipient neighborhoods. Rupert Bentley Walls has spent his career in tree planting and tree care, creating and engaging in such relationships with residents of high need neighborhoods. Senior Arboricultural Officer for the Borough of Hackney, London (England), Rupert will discuss the barriers to, and share his successes in, expanding the tree canopy and creating resident tree advocates. "
The talk will go from 7pm - 8pm, but is preceeded by an hour (6pm - 7pm) of light refreshments and exhibitors from around the Lexington-Fayette area.
