A Living History Walk of the Plants and Trees at The Henry Clay Estate
Join Heidi Braunreiter, Botanist from the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, to learn about Running Buffalo Clover, native plants and trees, and invasive species on Friday, October 15 at 1pm at The Henry Clay Estate. Running Buffalo Clover is a relict plant from the days when the American Bison roamed the land and the Bluegrass Region was a mosaic of savanna-woodlands and grasslands, rich with big game animals. This plant has been preserved in time at the Henry Clay Estate through the lack of land development, and the care of the land by the Henry Clay Memorial Foundation. Hear about the other native herbaceous and tree species present on the estate, and what invasive species threaten their habitats.
Please meet outside of the Gingko Tree Cafe on the estate at 1pm. This will be an easy walk as we will walk along the woodchip trails on the estate, with brief excursions into the grass to take closer looks at the trees and plants.
