Rachel and white oak at Maxwell Place

> Rachel

Tree species

> Quercus alba (white oak)

 > Maxwell Place

I selected the white oak tree on the President's lawn at Maxwell Place because of the iconic location, sentimental value, and because of the ecological services provided to the UK campus. During my first undergraduate semester at UK I took a Dendrology class and these trees were the first white oaks I learned to identify. Later, when I was looking for white oak trees to test sampling DNA from for my master’s thesis, I knew they would be the perfect candidates.
